Pakistani dramas have been at the core of our entertainment business for decades, bringing amazing talent from actors, writers, and directors into the spotlight. In this context of reach and relevance, the makers have also taken on the responsibility of creating a positive impact on society with dramas that tackle issues, raise awareness, and break the silence by initiating dialogue on a domestic level.
‘Mere Mohsin’ revolves around a couple whose family background, social circle and financial status are contrary to one another and as love prevails they both tend to fall for each other. Mohsin (Syed Jibran) belongs to a middle-class family, consisting of her mother Khursheed Begum (Saba Hameed) and three sisters.
On the other side, there’s Soha (Rabab Hashim) the modern, rich and educated daughter of Raza (Tanveer Jamal). Her mother passed away when she was a child. She is been brought up by her father who has given her everything she desires in life.
There’s also a parallel track of Safia (Gul-e-Rana) her children Sidra (Nazish Jahangir) and Zahid (Kamran Jillani). Zahid and Jahan Ara were engaged; the relations within the family went sour when Safia called off their engagement.
As night turns into day, we see more of Mohsin trying to solve his family problems. Khursheed begum is worried about Mohsin and doesn’t want him to marry by his choice. She feels insecure that an outsider would take his only son away from her. Meanwhile, Soha gets the big shock of her life when she comes to know her father has secretly married Aalia (Fazila Qazi). Adding more to Soha’s horror, Raza brings Aalia home. He even tells her to accept her presence in the house.
Soha is now heartbroken; she wants commitment but Mohsin is clueless. Moreover, her father comes to know about her relationship and warns her not to marry in this family. The real twist in the tale happens when Mohsin finally decides to marry Soha secretly. He gets a promotion and transfers to Karachi, where his mother has planned his marriage with Sidra. The worst happens when Soha arrives at the venue just before Mohsin’s marriage with Sidra.
A mess is created, the families are shocked; Mohsin is asked to instantly divorce Soha to which he disagrees. As a result, Zahid divorces Jahan Ara. Khursheed begum after a few days forgives Mohsin and allows Soha to stay in the house only at a condition that she has to mold herself according to their lifestyle.
Soha heads towards a bitter journey of making her in-laws happy. Jahan Ara and Khursheed begum don’t let go of any opportunity to insult her. Misunderstandings are created between Soha and Mohsin, and Soha ends up leaving the house, going back to her father. Mohsin tries to mend his relations with Soha but now Raza isn’t in favor to carry this marriage forward. He comes to apologize many times but isn’t allowed to meet her.
When Soha finds out She is expecting, she buries the hatchet and returns to Mohsin’s home; this time she turns the tables in a good way. She refers Khalid for a job which he eventually gets it and Batool happily goes home. The latest episode ends on a cliffhanger note when she turns matchmaker for the wicked Jahan Ara.
Produced under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment, Mere Mohsin follows the basic romantic genre geometry that showcases a man surrounded by societal pressures; it’s the same prose with new grammar. It’s amazing to see how actors today don’t shy away from portraying more real roles; characters that require more than just a dazzle of glamour. Rabab Hashim proved to be the right choice for this part. She plays the stubborn, headstrong and imperfect girl to perfect with perfection. She takes the risk of doing what she hasn’t explored before and the character makes her experience a variety of emotions. Syed Jibran is equally flawless; he plays the good and responsible guy with precision. He maintains the pace of the character and not even once trembles or loses focus.
A good drama finds its audience; it just about learning a simple formula i.e. content is the king. The next episode, we are curious to know whether Jahan Ara will accept the marriage proposal arranged by Soha?

Five Pakistan cricketers including Yasir Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah, treated an Indian cab driver at a restaurant in Brisbane back on Friday, after the latter refused to accept any fare from them as he is himself a fan of the sport.
On the fourth day of the first Test between Pakistan and Australia at the Gabba, in a conversation with former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson, ABC radio presenter Alison Mitchell narrated the heartwarming story of the taxi driver. She met the driver on Sunday morning when she took a ride to the stadium ahead of play.
“When the cabbie got to know we are headed to the stadium, he asked us are you watching or working. When we told him we work in the commentary, he got very excited,” she said.
Moments later, the driver showed her a photo of himself on his phone at a restaurant along with members of the Pakistan cricket team.

“Turns out, a couple of days ago, he was called to the Pakistan cricket team hotel. He picked up five of the Pakistan players,” she continued.
“And he is a cricket fan, so he was naturally excited to have them in the taxi and they wanted to go to an Indian restaurant for a meal. He drove them to the restaurant and when they got out he said it’s on me.”
The cricketers, including the trio of bowlers that featured in the first Test, then showed their gratitude by asking the driver to join them for dinner.
Australia drew first blood in the series after defeating Pakistan by an innings and 5 runs in Brisbane on Sunday itself, after Marnus Labuschagne (185) and David Warner (154) helped Australia accumulate a first-innings tally of 580 in reply to Pakistan’s 240.
An FIR was lodged against actor, singer and writer, Mohsin Abbas Haider by his former wife in July, 2019, accusing him of domestic abuse. Although Fatima Sohail uploaded pictures of her bruises to justify her claim, Mohsin denied all allegations saying, “she is trying to play the woman card.” Adding that, “It is true I had anger issues in the past but I’m a changed man.”
Nevertheless, over a month after the Lahore Family Court accepted Fatima’s request for khula on September 26, 2019, Mohsin uploaded a picture of his musical comeback.
Posted on his Instagram, the picture titled Rooh addressed his upcoming single, featuring music by Faraz Khosa. The actor had shared the first look of the cover art captioned with hashtag #ComingSoon.
However, celebrities who protested against the actor during the time of domestic abuse allegations have not commented on the matter yet. While the last project Mohsin was seen working in was Deewar-e-Shab, following which he did not appear anywhere and was also fired from Mazaaq Raat.
Following the outrage on social media, the actor has now explained the video and revealed that it was part of a marketing campaign. He also said that more details will be revealed soon.
Ali in his video message said that the purpose of making the video viral has been fulfilled and it was done to highlight the #TumJantayHoMainKaunHoon culture.
Ali elaborated that the video was shot to highlight the “so-called VIP culture in our country” and that he is very glad that his video sparked a debate on the topic and made people “uncomfortable”.
Sharing his own thoughts on the matter, Ali said that we often talk about and raise voice about a matter on Twitter but don’t act upon it.
Ali also thanked the staff at Mc Donalds for being the “best partners in crime.”
He ended his video by requesting people to focus more on the message and less on his actions.
Folks, I know you are all very anxious to hear my side of story. So without any further delay, I would like to share what happened there and stay tuned to this space as you will soon get to see the complete picture and you will surely love it. #ComingSoon #WaitForIt #BigNews pic.twitter.com/8MRn25B7jt— Ali Rehman Khan (@alirehmankhan) November 23, 2019
The ‘leaked’ video shows a visibly angry Ali shouting at a McDonald’s employee, saying “Aapko pata hai main kaun hoon? Aapne kabhi mujhe TV pe dekha hai? Aap employee hain, aapka kaam hai meri baat maanna.” (“Do you know who I am? Have you ever seen me on TV? You are an employee, your job is to listen to what I am saying.”)
The restaurant employee responds by saying, “Please sir, don’t be angry with us. You’re absolutely right. I was just joking.”
The employee tried apologising to Ali multiple times but the actor only stopped when he realised he was being recorded.
